Software tutorials

tutorial

This is my first software tutorial! I enjoyed it, so I hope to do more in future.

I learned a lot along the way. We had to learn Captivate for an upcoming project, (an e-learning module I hope to post later on) so I spent time figuring it out to create this video.

Through testing, I discovered the pros and cons of each recording option the software provided. The issues with the software simulation option (a known issue where the mouse wouldn’t shown up and glitchy audio etc.) were unacceptable, so I opted for the video demo option.

I know in future that I’ll use Camtasia for video tutorials like this. The resolution isn’t fantastic once uploaded to YouTube, though it looks good played out of Captivate or using other media players.

This project also involved learning how to create and work with DITA topics in Adobe Experience Manager so I could teach my classmates (and anyone who views this video) how to reuse content using this CCMS.

You can view the Google Docs slide show that went along with this presentation in class here.
